How much should I pay for my phone system?

In terms of hardware, it depends on how far you want to go. Costing for bespoke applications is very difficult.

However, if you are looking for a conventional system, with or without voice mail, the following should act as a rough guide:

4 lines, 8 extensions, no voice mail £220 - £ 360 per extension

8 lines, 20 extensions, voice mail £350 - £500 per extension

20 lines, 50 extensions, voice mail £240 - £ 380 per extension

Installation

On existing wiring, expect installation, programming, commissioning and training at around £ 40 per extension.

This figure should rise to around £ 60, if the installer is to use their own cabling.

CAT5 cabling is usually installed at around £55 per point, plus patch panels, cords, modules, sockets and cabinets. Expect these to cost between £ 10 and £ 20 per extension.
