Daily news from Cameroon, West Africa.
Cameroon occupies an area of 465, 547 square kilometres.
It is bordered by Equatorial Guinea, Chad, the Central African
Republic, The Congo, and Nigeria.
It is heavily forested with dense tropical vegetation, with
15% of its total land being reserved for farming. It has two
rivers - the Sanaga to the south, and the Benue to the west.
Cameroon gained its independence in 1960. Its mineral deposits
include: limestone, gold, iron, aluminium, bauxite, and iron.
Its principal crops are: peanuts, rubber, palm oil, millet,
beans, corn, and sorghum.
Cameroonian industries include: timber, aluminium, tyre, fertiliser,
tannery, pulp and paper complexes; whilst exports are: cocoa,
timber, cotton, aluminium, petroleum, coffee.
However, the economy has a strong agriculture base. The dense
forests are conservation areas for wildlife, and rare trees
for research. The climate is tropical, with average temperature
at 820F or 280C.
Cameroon is shaped like a triangle. Its capital is Duoala.
