Printers / Networks for UK Business
Printers
We specialise in printers for the workgroup and department.
We have put together the most brilliant, cost effective and
above all reliable printers for network use. To print on a
network laser printing is a must. Nothing else can withstand
the load and nothing else costs so little to run.
Small Laser Printers
These are designed for networks of perhaps 5-10 people doing
a small volume of black and white and colour printing. They
are usually driven by one person's PC or by the server directly,
rather than having a separate network connection to themselves.
Print jobs are sent to that PC, which prints in the background
while its user carries on working. This is fine as long as
there is not too much printing going on, as it can slow down
that person's PC from time-to-time.
OKI printers are strictly LED printers rather than laser
printers, but they are technically equivalent. They are also
ozone-free, and the desktop printers are noiseless as they
have no need of a cooling fan. OKI produce both small desktop
printers which can print A4 at up to either 8 or 14 pages
per minute, and high-speed network printers with expandable
paper options. The drum and toner are separate components,
meaning that you only have to replace whichever one has actually
worn out, saving you money on your consumables.
OKI's colour printer, the DP-5000, is a thermal dye-sublimation
printer rather than a laser or LED printer. It uses dry-ink
ribbon cassettes, and can print in "Vphoto" mode (1200x2400dpi),
and in gold and silver foil and also in white and metallic
colours as well as in normal colours, and it can produce a
glossy finish with the appropriate paper.
Hewlett Packard's basic printers, such as the LaserJet 1100,
are for print volumes of up to 7000 pages per month: this
is the sort of volume you might expect from up to five users
in a reasonably busy office. The 1100 has an optional scanner/copier
attachment (black only), and optional JetDirect network connectivity.
Or, you might prefer the HP3200, which is a combined laser
printer, fax machine and scanner, with the ability to scan
documents for e-mail if networked. Both of these printers
have a 600x600 dpi (dots per inch) resolution, which is good
enough for most business purposes. There is also the HP3200m,
with 1200x1200 dpi resolution, should you require it. Both
3200 models can scan in colour.
For faster printing, there is the HP1200, at up to 14ppm
(pages per minute), 1200x1200dpi and a work load of up to
10,000 pages per month. Again, it comes with optional colour
scanner/copier with the facility to send by e-mail.
For more substantial printing requirements, the HP2200 provides
up to 18ppm at 1200x1200dpi, with a print volume of up to
40,000 pages per month. It comes with two paper trays, and
can print in duplex (double-sided).
Larger Laser Printers
OKI's workgroup (network) printers are designed for higher-volume
use. They come with network connectivity built-in, along with
PCL and Postscript graphics languages to speed your graphics
printing. They can print at up to 14, 20 or 24 A4 pages per
minute, and the larger models can also print in duplex (double-sided)
mode.
Their colour LED printers can print from 12 to 21 full-colour
pages per minute A4 or up to 11ppm A3, depending on the model.
The numerous models have various options to choose from depending
on your needs, such as numerous paper trays, finishers, scanners
and copiers, hard disk drives for storing special fonts and
other data, large amounts of RAM to speed their data processing,
duplex printing, and of course network connectivity.
Hewlett Packard Printers
For heavy-duty printing, the HP4100 series are hard to beat,
with a duty cycle of up to 150,000 sheets per month. They
have multiple optional paper trays, capable of holding up
to 1600 sheets of paper ready for printing. The printers can
work with plain, preprinted, letterhead, transparency, prepunched,
labels, bound, recycled, color, card stock and rough paper
stocks. They print up to 25ppm at 1200 dpi in black only.
If you don't need quite so much power, the HP5000 series
can handle a duty cycle of up to 65,000 sheets per month at
16ppm. Alternatively, if you need yet more capacity, the HP9000
series can handle up to 300,000 sheets per month, at an astonishing
50 pages per minute. For colour printing, the HP4550 series
can print at 4ppm in 2400dpi image-enhanced colour (or 16ppm
black). Depending on your graphics requirements, memory can
be upgraded to a maximum of 192Mb.
For the heavy-duty colour user, the HP8550 series can handle
up to 60,000 sheets per month, again in 2400dpi image-enhanced
colour, but this time at up to 6ppm for colour, or 24ppm in
black.
