Internet Connection Solutions
The Internet stands accused of being
too slow, but in reality it may be your internet connection
that is holding things up. Faster lines mean less time wasted
on all internet tasks, be it research, the delivery of business
details to your chosen business portals and potential clients,
or email marketing.

Dial-Up
If you have a modem or dial-up connection,
you are sharing your access with thousands of people and you
must dial, connect and authenticate yourself each time you
want to do anything. Also you are billed per minute and usually
have to pay an ISP. Your phone bill and the HUGE amount of
time wasted waiting can be devastating. Modems also have a
tendency to disconnect if there is a glitch on the line. The
problem is that modems connect when they need to transfer
data: this means ringing up, making sure the line isn't engaged,
queing, being connected, checking passwords and user names,
then accessing the Internet. As the Internet is so popular
your ISP may disconnect you periodically, especially with
all-inclusive deals. If you've ever lost a download that has
nearly finished and had to start again and wait another few
hours you'll know how frustrating this can be. Offering poor
speed, especially for networks, dial-up modems are yesterday's
technology. As sites become more and more complex your waiting
time can only increase. For network useage they are next-to
useless as everything slows to a crawl.
ISDN
If you have a network, ISDN is undoubtedly
the most expesive, time-consuming way to connect to the Internet.
It is also one of the least flexible connection methods, but
excellent for running up bills. ISDN is notorious because
you are billed up to 8p per minute and there is a charge for
each attempted call no matter how short. That means that if
your equipment malfunctions and dials several times per minute
you get a 5p charge for each attempt. What seemed cheap starts
to hurt and even a single line can cause bills of £1000 per
month in no time. As you use the Internet more and your business
grows the situation will worsen. Once you have exhausted the
limits of your expensive shared connection how do you grow?
Lines don't get any faster, do they? Well, think again.
ADSL
Always available - no need to waste
time dialling up. Provides a greater download speed than upload
speed You can use voice and fax communications simultaneously,
so you can make a phone call while on-line. ADSL transforms
a normal exchange line into a high-speed digital line, capable
of transmitting up to 40 times faster than ordinary modems.
The lines are always open, providing a leased line-like connection.

FAQ's
Leased Line
A leased line is the most common type
of permanent high-speed connection to the Internet. It is
a direct connection between a network and an Internet Service
Provider which is provided by a telephone company such as
BT. It is mostly used by large networks or Web servers which
require faster connection speeds than a modem can offer. The
line is a permanent 24 hour connection, which is available
in a range of capacities:
