How we build your business database!
Merchant Internet follows a strict and rigorous planning protocol for
every database it builds.
With database software, the plan is everything.
A good plan will surface problems, identify hidden needs,
help eliminate unsightly bugs, speed development, speed testing
and result in a superior product.
Step 1: Needs Analysis
Merchant Internet meets with the client multiple times until it has
a detailed understanding of the business needs, data requirements,
hardware configuration, human resources, technical support
and long range plans. One of the best ways to understand a
database is to review all the reports it generates. Once you
see the reports that are required you can work backwards to
develop the Database Architecture.
Step 2: Database Architecture
When all information is gathered Merchant Internet develops
the database architecture . Every single piece of data is
identified, every table constructed, every relationship established.
Merchant Internet meets with the client and goes over the
architectural diagram until the client completely understands
how the database will operate.
Merchant Internet takes each report and audits it against
the architectural plan to assure the database software can
generate the information required. When the diagram is finished
Merchant Internet and the client sign off on the plan. Only
when the database design and plan is finished are we ready
to start writing code.
Step 3: Prototype Development
Merchant Internet then creates a prototype to present to
the client. The prototype is a semi functional database which
shows basic screen layout and database operation. The client
reviews the prototype with the developer and makes changes
and suggestions. The client then approves the prototype as
is or with indicated changes. Upon approval Merchant Internet
proceeds to produce Beta Test Version 1.
Step 4: Beta Testing
The database is completed and installed at the client site.
Beta testers are trained in how to test the database software
and evaluate its operation. Procedures are put in place to
handle error reporting and general functionality. The database
comes back to Merchant Internet. Bugs are corrected, changes
made and Beta Test Version 2 is produced and ready for Acceptance
Testing.
Step 5: Acceptance Testing
Beta Test Version 2 is installed at the client site and a
time period is established for acceptance testing. This is
the final test. If errors are found they are corrected and
additional time is extended to test the corrections. At the
end of the Acceptance Testing period the database is considered
complete. Then and only then is the final payment made by
the client.
Step 6: Warranty Period
Even after Acceptance Testing Merchant Internet warrants
its business databases to function as specified for one year
from completion of Acceptance Testing.
Good database design and planning assures that we can do
that!
